@dhighway: I do use Calibre, have used it for a few years now. BUT I'd like to be able to input the mobi/prc or epubs directly. I use Sigil to fix up epubs I want to send to the Kindle, and add the first page "comments" which I find invaluable.
I actually have bought quite a few books (had a Sony700 originally, then Kindle3 which I still have), but I can't even get at the ones I buy without getting a lot of baloney about putting in my ADE or Kindle pid #. I seriously hunt down places to BUY my books without any DRM because I'm fed up dealing with it!

Yes, I know - I will steer myself back from the subject of corporate entities telling me what I can and can't do with ebooks I have bought and paid for - GRRRR!
Also (as I mentioned) I could stick with my Kindle if I only want to have one format to choose from books. But I don't - I want to be able to buy the book I want, from the places I want, in the formats I want.
