There was also some other non printable characters like C-y or similar. The problem was that these where extra characters so the filepos pointers pointed to the wrong place. Another possibility is that the compression is done in a different way then other files and that the uncompression in the Perl module then introduced the extra characters. They are probably not there in the source material.
