Am i creating HQ line art the right way?

Hi guys,

I had an idea for creating HQ line art, and I wanted to know if this was a good way to make line that was truly compatible and okay across kindles.

By line art, I'm refering to fancy page breaks like symbols between scenes.

Originally I would create a 100x100px shape of a dove to go between scenes. But the dove image was very yucky looking in Kindle preview, as it was 72dpi LQ. Yet, when I create a 300dpi version, the dove takes up the whole page when KindleGen scales it down.

However, when I create a dove with a lot of white space on the left and right of the image (resulting in a "strip"-shaped image), Kindlegen scales this rectangular image to fit the page width... creating a neat little scene break that only takes up the correct space on the page... while being HQ.

Is this the correct method?
I believe that in some applications, clicking on the dove will make it zoom to the whole page.

If someone has used this method before, can you share some pro's and con's?

Cheers,
