Yep that is the same conclusion I came to. Also I've installed those packages on my phone Samsung Vibrant and sure enough those issues are showing up. It's not a nook/OS issue it's an app issue.

Most app developers are responsive I'm thinking if folks start informing Fora or ColorDict about the character issues they might fix the issue.
