I believe they do not, and it is probably not economically feasible for B&N or Kobo to offer a battery replacement service for a $120 device. When someone does a teardown of the device we'll learn if it is possible for a DIY replacement.

I question the notion of 'long term' when it comes to consumer electronics, however. The battery should be good for at least 2-3 years, by which time there will be plenty of things better if not cheaper. My 5 year old iPod nano is still going strong, and when it dies, I will not mourn it.
