Seconding this. I use the Amazon recommends feature religiously. (It helps that I rate or review everything I read.) I've found lots of good books that way that I wouldn't otherwise have found and I like that.
B&N as a company - AND THIS IS A SUBJECTIVE OPINION OF MINE - seems to be comprised of extremely good ideas balanced by poor execution. I like their site navigation overall, but their search engine is terrible and doesn't even recognize ISBNs! Their recommendation feature is a good plan poorly executed, since you can't tweak your likes/dislikes and - as Scion says - if you "buy" all the Free Friday books, your recommends will soon become meaningless. Their shelves idea is wonderful, but until you can set them up online and have them flow down to your multiple nooks, it's almost worthless.
I like the company... just wish they'd invest in making things great instead of ok-but-half-finished.
