I think, by the comment from Kobo, they mean a piece of the database which is on the flashdrive portion of internal memory. This is likely the intent but perhaps the book isn't registered properly in the database. There are portions of the database designed to save all sorts of things and since this is called memory by your own admission since you called the SD card memory, they are technically correct, not completely wrong.
