On the stock Nook Color, you cannot read Amazon's books. The stock NC is "locked" into B&N Android environment and you need full access to Android Market in order to do that. Rooting the device can give you such access, but rooting it is not officially supported by B&N.

The other alternative that you have is breaking the DRM protection and convert to ePUb via Calibre (also briefly explained here before) In some countries, including USA, this is illegal and maybe not moral? But that is up to you. Mobileread rules do not allow to explicitly explain the process but there are several references if you check on Google.

My personal opinion and advice to you is using a Kindle's device instead. You will be indirectly supporting Amazon if you root the device; if you're a B&N supporter you should keep your device stock or stick to B&N online bookstore.
