Deciding between 3
I am so grateful to have found this board. I have been reading for over three weeks all the information I can find about ereaders, trying to decide which is best for me. Thanks in advance to any of you who have the time to help.
I am not an avid reader but do like to read. I am looking for a reader that will offer me good customer service, reliability, and the ability to read newspapers and magazines. Also, my eyes are not what they used to be so I need a device that I can change the font when the print is too small, and I need a device that will be easy to use. I will find it difficult to convert files like I have seen talked about on the boards, so I am concerned if the process is too difficult or time consuming, I won't use my reader as much as I would like.
I didn't know ereaders even existed until I went to Amazon's site one day and saw the Kindle. I read all I could and then ordered it. I have been on a waiting list for over 3 weeks with no sign that my Kindle will be shipped to me anytime soon. In the meantime, I have been researching other devices so that I can make sure I get the right one for me. I am currently looking at three...the Kindle, the Sony 505, and Cybook.
I like the Kindle because of the automatic download feature so I wouldn't have to get the files first onto and then off my computer. I also like that I can subscribe to newspapers and magazines, and I like that there are 6 different fonts. I also like that you can sample chapters before purchasing the book.
All of that would be enough for me to decide on the Kindle, but I have been faithfully watching the Kindle forums on Amazon and I see an awful lot of posts where people had to get a replacement due to the Kindle freezing up or the battery being bad. And the worst part is that a lot of those people are not just on their second Kindle but sometimes even on their third with both their first and second being bad.
They do say that Amazon provides great customer service and replaces the Kindles with no hassle, but after waiting so long to finally get the product and then possibly having to exchange it and maybe even more than once, that would be a hassle in itself.
My second choice is the Sony Reader. The big advantage to the Reader for me is that I can go to my local Borders and buy it immediately...no more waiting like I have done for 3 weeks for the Kindle so far. But the big disadvantage is there is no way to read newspapers or magazines and there are only 3 font sizes. Book prices seem to be higher than the Kindle also. And there has been some question about their customer support.
Lastly, I have been looking at the Cybook. That seems like a nice little reader to me...it offers multiple file formats and many fonts. But I don't know again if there is a way to read newspapers or magazines, and I have read that their customer support is horrible. I also don't like that you can only contact them through email. And there appears with them to be a wait time too.
I have been going back and forth with these three for three weeks, and I am not any closer to making a decision so I am hoping someone here can help me. I do appreciate any feedback you can offer. Thanks very much for taking the time to help!
