sure? Positive?
Adobe's DRM requires one software component on the destination device, and a second component (and probably a third, fourth and fifth) on the server. But suppose Amazon wrote equivalent server components from scratch, using the same
clean room techniques that Phoenix used to clone IBM's BIOS, and that
Wine and
ReactOS are using to clone Windows.
I'll bet they could get away with offering Adobe-clone DRM-corrupted books for sale without paying any fees.
I'm ambivalent about whether I want that though. It would be great to be able to buy books at Amazon again. But I would fear it would hasten their coming monopoly.
