No hassle at all. In fact, with multiple readers in the house, it's easier for me to 'workaround' the same way for all of them then to use the out-of-the-box solution for each.
"Locked in to Amazon" is totally untrue. At best, it's hyperbole for "Can't directly buy DRMed ebooks from B&N or KOBO and one or two other places."

Oh, how about ability to send yourself personal documents wirelessly...wait, Kindle has that too....
"Better features" depends totally on what features are important to you.
