In case the facetiousness was too subtle: supporting standards is a Good Thing, in most cases, for both business and customer.
Amazon probably made a sound decision go with Mobi from the outset. (It certainly hasn't hampered my enjoyment of the Kindle)
It would also be a sound decision to add ePub support now.
