I recently tried, in vain, to explain to one of my nephews why the drug culture of that time was so different from today. I am not minimalizing the bad stuff that happened sometimes to people addicted to the heavy stuff, but that was one of the differences -- whatever happened, happened to an INDIVIDUAL. These days the drug culture is so tied up in crime and commerce that it is an entirely different animal that adversely affects whole communities. Not the same at all, and nothing to make sweet movies about. Oh, how I loved that first Cheech and Chong movie!
