When I get my replacement Kobo, it seems like the only safe thing to do is just read the 100 free books on it... and never plug it in to a computer. Hmmm...
i don't think so ... the only things you really have to watch out for are a) letting the battery run all the way down while reading or in sleep mode and b) disconnecting a still mounted drive.

i have side loaded over 200 epubs to my wife's kobo, both to the internall memory and the 4gb SD card i put in it.
I have sideloaded over 800 to my mom's kobo, once again to internal and the SD. aside from the one glitch in my wife's kobo, neither has had another issue. my wife has been using hers for 5 months now, and my mom for over 3.

the real key to being happy with any piece of technology is to have a realistic understanding of its potential and limitations. When i bought the kobo for her, i knew that the screen wasnt as crisp as the k3, and that pageturns would be slower.
I also knew that i did not want a g3 radio in it, and i had to have support for epub. therefore, i went for the kobo, knowing it's limitations. it is a very simple, stable reader. just don't expect it to be a kindle or a nook, because it isnt.
