I couldn't read the year on that particular encyclopedia, but presumably it's a really out-dated version. My parents have a set from 1978 that's just hanging out in their attic that I'd classify as worthless.

I'm the same way! My husband doesn't hesitate to highlight or dog ear his books, and it drives me crazy. He was banned from reading my paper books when he bent the spine on one because he left it open, face-down, to mark his page.
