They do tend to work for straight taps, so if that's all you need it will probably be fine. And the fatter ones work best.
I tried a capacitive stylus for drawing apps on the rooted nook and that didn't work well at all.

I bought a Targus stylus, which works well enough, I guess, but went back to using my finger a couple of days later.
