I'll admit I do have a tendency to look down on those who 'earned' their money by exploiting people who'd been forced off the land their families had farmed for generations and were obliged to work in conditions that would make a modern third-world sweatshop look like paradise simply to put some food in their bellies.

The majority of Victorian industrialists were ignorant louts with all the moral compass of a monkey. The aristocracy wasn't much better, noblesse oblige was a principle largely honoured in its absence, but they had at least read many of the classics, for all the good that did them.

Are you seriously, I mean seriously trying to defend Victorian capitalist values in this day-and-age? Pull the other one.
