Books containing "<code>"

Hi all,

I am mostly reading a technical books containing graphs, screenshots and parts of a source code. Some of them are in pdf and I must say that reading a pdf on my kindle is really unpleasant experience.
I have been trying to convert these books to mobi using calibre and I tried all possible settings trying to get as good result as possible - which means - not to loose the source code formating... The problem I have is that I start to think that its nearly impossible :-(
Does anybody know how to get a good mobi from a technical pdf? Is it even possible? Anyone knows how to keep formating of <code> or <pre>-like parts of text when converting from the pdf?

Thanks for any help...
