Personally, I don't see the perks of being a vampire except for immortality.
You can't go out during the day in the sun ? I love the sun and the blue sky and the birds and the bees and nature... And I especially love the beach and the bathing and the babes in the summer, all of which takes a lot of sun.
You look all pale and red-eyed ? That look went out of fashion with queen Victoria. Tan is in.
You wear only black, preferably with long capes or coats ? Not my style. I like light and comfortable clothes.
You have a smile that strikes fear into the hearts of men ? Allright, that's kind of cool but my canines are pretty prominent as it is...
You have to drink blood to survive ? YUCK ! I'm kind of a gourmet, and the thought of replacing all those delicious dishes and the wealth of flavours they bring with just a slightly salty but mostly tasteless red liquid is horrifying ! Besides, people might take offense at me drinking their blood and drive a stake through my heart or something...
You can't go in anywhere where you're not invited ? Well that would be a major bummer and nuissance !
You can't stand crosses ? Well that's kind of true already, with all the religious zealots shoving them in my face where they don't belong, like in public institutions...
You're feared by all animals and living things except for humans as they immediately sense your unnatural aura ? I love animals ! Especially little puppies, little kitties, little piglets...
You're despised and reviled by all humans who discover your true nature ? Certainly not desirable... Come to think of it, this one is kind of true for gay people (in some surroundings) and D&D players (and other kinds of geeks)...
So what do you get in return ? Immortality and super strength, and that's about it. Very nice, but with a great cost !
Genetic engineering is a much nicer way to both IMHO ! I volunteer !

Oh yeah, I forgot one thing. Vampires often have lots of groupies, like hot young girls (into goth subculture and such), which is certainly a big plus. But you can get that by being a rockstar, or being filthy rich and driving around in a Ferrari also. Not that I'm either, but still.
