You can adjust the font size on both the Sony and the Kindle although the Kindle has more options.

I know that you can search in a document in the Kindle very easily. Another option is to highlight a passage and add a note so that you can reference events pretty easily when you are out of the book. Or even bookmarking pages that you think are relevent.

I know that the Kindle has a webpage you can go to and view all of your notes. You go to Kindle.amazon.com and you can look at all of your notes and highlights. At the very least, you can do a quick cut and paste from there. I am taking a look and I don't see an easy export option.

The Kindle allows you to move to landscape mode very easily which makes it easier to look at graphs and pictures.

The 650 is a very nice machine. You will not be disappointed if you get one. It does not offer anything that I think is so special that it is worth the extra money you have to pay for it. I know people discuss how well built it is but I have a K1 (traveled all over the US, Australia, and New Zealans. Spent time on planes, at the beach, in a backpack, and all over the house), DXG, and K3. The K1 is coming on three years old and works perfectly. No problems. So I don't buy that you need the extra protection that the Sony's metal casing provides. I am not a huge fan of touch screens so that is not a winner for me. I love my 3G/WiFi connectivity and I could not get that on the 650.
