It looks like Amazon has made a few hundred Smashwords freebies that were non-free @ for Kindle due to the minimum DTP pricing requirements 0.00.
This will make it… interesting to filter out the publisher promo/glitch freebies from the self-published stuff, especially if they make a habit of it.
