Dangerous Skies

Grapevine Limited's Air Control puts you in charge of a hectic airport environment, one where any lapse in your concentration could lead to catastrophe. That's why you can't put this addictive game down. Because this time--no, really, this time--there will be no midair collision, no crash-and-burn. You've got this, now. Maybe.

You play the part of an air traffic controller. Looking outside from the control tower, you can see aircraft coming at you from all directions. Planes, jets, helicopters, and even zeppelins crowd the sky, perpetually risking collision. Your job: guide all of them safely to the ground.

You will need to keep thinking ahead, moving quickly, and multitasking in order to prevent the worst from happening. Take your eye off of potentially conflicting flight paths or stray aircraft for too long, and game over. However, every time a jet, plane, helicopter, or airship touches down intact, you win a point. As you accumulate points, you move up from rank to rank toward pilot.

Maintaining Control

As you play, aircraft continually careen into view, heading toward the airport without clear flight paths. You have the power to re-route each of these simply by tracing a line between the craft's icon and the place where you want it to go. Touch the icon, and a designated runway, landing strip, or helipad will light up on the airfield. Draw a line from the icon's position to that landing area. If you've drawn a valid landing path, the plane will turn white and follow it.

You can choose one of four custom game environments: The default Green Field environment represents a modern airport servicing jets, planes, and helicopters. The Desert River background assigns you to a more remote airfield handling similar traffic. The Blue Ocean has you directing fighter jet and helicopter landings on an aircraft carrier. And Wings of History puts you in charge of a vintage airstrip frequented by single- and twin-propeller planes and zeppelins.

No matter the environment or the level of play, you'll always feel compelled to go for a better score or a higher rank. Ultimately, the challenge posed by this simple game is: Just try to put it down.

• Choose from field, desert, ocean, and historical landing environments

• Rise from amateur to trainee to wannabe to pilot

• Compare your high scores to other players'
