Well what you need realy depends on whats important to you. Despite what people here will say there is no one best reader for all people so the question is which of the below statements best describes you and that will determine what you need:

1) I can see myself with a very large electronic book library - Kindle
2) I like to read foriegn languege, non-english, books - Bookeen
3) I like to customize my electronic reader - Kindle
4) Need something very simple - Kobo
5) I do not want to be loyal to any book store and instead shop around for best price - Pocket book lite
6) Have a Smart phone, such as a Anroid or a Blackberry and would like to pay $0 for a reader - download free readers from Amazon, Mobipocket, borders, Barns and Nobles and Overdrive and start reading for $0
7) I like touch screen and I want a color screen - Nook Color
8) I like touch screen but color doesn't matter much - Sony PRS.
9) Want to be able to read unusual books - Kindle
