Google books brings up mentions of the original release announcement in NYTimes, and in Publishers Weekly. Jstor brings up the mentions in a couple of academic papers.

"The Greatest Story Never Told" by Lana Cantrell. It is indeed a rare book, but not as rare as the one you are looking for.
I am going to read it in short bursts, as reading on a laptop I find to be a bit of a strain.
I really hope that you are able to find your book.
