I have some microfiber dishtowels that I got at Target - I see no reason you couldn't line a case with those. Or a car washing towel from the auto parts store. Or some microfiber eyeglass cleaning clothes. Or just plain 100% cotton fabric - cotton shouldn't scratch a reader.

You could cut up a plastic tub for stiffening. Cut up some mouse pads for padding - I have made a lot of cool stuff out of cut up mouse pads, covered with fabric.
