You can have as many as you want registered to the same account. Some books will be limited in the number of devices they can be used simultaneously, but I think even the low end of that limitation is five devices at a time.

The two devices don't need to be the same. Personally I have a Kindle 3 (3G+WiFi), a Kindle 2, 2 copies of Kindle 4 PC, a copy of Kindle 4 Mac and 2 copies of Kindle 4 Android on my account and the books on the account can be read on any of those devices. I often have the same book on my K3 and my Android phone for example.
