Is John Scalzi's new book a follow up to H. Beam Piper's work?

Tor is releasing Fuzzy Nation which appears to be set in H. Beam Piper's Fuzzy universe. Does anyone know anything about this book? I'm a big fan of Scalzi but it's been years since I read Piper's Fuzzy books (got the MR collection waiting on my Kindle).

I'm just curious if they're set in the same universe or if it's an unrelated homage, I'm fine with it either way.
