I actually never used Amazon to buy books until I bought our first Kindle. Prior to that I either bought at wholesale direct from publishers or bought used on Half/eBay followed by the odd book from Amazon now and then. I have been Prime member since the program began and actually used it to replace the CostCo membership save for the years I need tires and even now I might buy my next set of tires via Amazon and just pay to have them mounted locally, it will cost less than even CostCo.

So for us the Kindled have no effect on the value of Prime. But owning Kindles has increased how many books are bought from Amazon. Once we buy some full color devices late this year, I expect to spend an painful amount as I switch my reference library over to as many Kindle books as possible.

Our use of Amazon might not yet be the norm but I suspect it will soon be the way many people do things even over the mighty Walmart.
