The "proper" solution to this imho is to offer customisable keyboard shortcuts, not to rearrange a handful for 3 million users just to meet what suits you. Don't get me wrong, I don't like some of the default shortcuts either, but until full on customisable keyboard shortcuts are made available for both all the built-in features and for plugins I would be surprised if Kovid wants to change the status quo.

As for customisable shortcuts, it is a feature request that has been on the list for a while. From what I have seen Kovid comment on this previously it is not trivial to implement due to the way Qt works. I have no doubt Kovid will get to it eventually, and I will be at the front of the queue championing the cause. As a plugin developer I don't get great joy out of every plugin having to have it's own limited keyboard shortcut configuration screen. It is a band-aid only - you can't override Calibre shortcuts, nor can you tell what shortcuts are in use when you get conflicts etc.

Unfortunately I don't have the Qt skills to confidently implement the feature myself or I would have offered to do so.
