I don't think "ashamed" is the word you want. I think you are closer with "conspicuous."
And it seems to me that your circumstances justify that feeling.
I expect to feel conspicuous when I buy my next EBR, but only if my wife sees me with it...I might have some 'splaining to do. (But really, I
do need this new EBR even though I have several others because THIS one does mumblemumblemumble and enables me to mumblemumble more easily and was really quite cheap at the price, which was Look! over there! the dog is running off with your chocolate!)
