Leave the whole "beat Apple!" stuff to the fanboys
It's funny that you say this since I believe Google is doing just that. Google's mantra has been "Open Platform" from the beginning. The irony here is many users are saying hey Google your a bit too open. We need a little more regulation/control here. Even Google partners have been good about enhancing the user experience.

If you follow Google's development cycle nothing is ever polished when it is first released. They release free products with limited features and clunky UI, then keep on adding features until it's a great product.

There have been some dirt thrown at Google stating they aren't as open as they claim, but no evidence has been proven yet.

Apple, Microsoft, Oracle, and Nokia however have been quite the opposite. All are touting a closed system and have been focusing on suing each other and any Android adopter and all the while trickling new features out.

BTW "the enemies" is not Apple, it's closed systems. Apple is just happens to be one of the many companies that is fighting for a closed system, much akin to DRM. And why should consumers care who wins, because in an open system consumers win as they get the best price and features. In a closed system the company who controls the system wins.
