pbooks vs ebooks page count

not sure if this has been asked, i did a quick search in the kobo forums for a couple of terms but nothing stood out.

i was just wondering if anyone knew, roughly, the amount of words per page or why ebooks tend to be a lot less than pbooks in overall page count.

for example, i have 2 new books that i purchased and put onto my kobo.

monster hunter international and hunger games.

MHI has a pbook page count of 736p
kobo count = 478p

hunger games has a pbook page count of 384p
kobo count = 223p

just wondering if anyone has a formula or knows the workings of it. to me it doesn't matter, in my mind it feels as if i'm reading smaller books overall by having them condensed on the kobo but knowing why would be neat too.

thanks
