My mentor in college filled ALL her walls with floor to ceiling books, adding the new shelves as she filled them, bottom to top, to get the maximum space. Nothing decorative; just solid books with no free space at all.
With her outer walls all faced absolutely solid with books, she saved a fortune in heating bills as they are a perfect insulator. I'm sure that after all these years, she has filled up all her inner walls as well. She really was a voracious reader, always with her nose in a book.
