To paraphrase
George Mallory, "because it's Doom"
I've run doom - at some point, not always playably and sometimes in ascii-mode - on all the computing devices I've ever owned, from my very first PC, to my PDA to my mobile phone. Doom (and/or Quake) is the single most reliable way of testing gfx and networking hardware in Windows pre-2000 that I've found.
Doom runs on just about anything:
digital cameras,
mp3 players,
lottery machines,
calculators etc, etc.
There used to be a site called itplaysdoom.com, but it seems to be gone these days. Archive.org
