It's never appropriate to be disrespectful at someone's funeral. Joanna Russ passed away last week.

Hence the bristling responses to the post containing only these four words: "never heard of her." You might think we were harsh, but consider how that sounds in context:

A: My best friend died yesterday and I miss him. His name was Joe.
B: Never heard of him.
