I shudder about "destroying" books, too, but that's what happens to old books, eventually. It's not quite as bad as pushing grandma down the stairs to "accelerate" the natural course of things -- there are usually other copies of the physical book, somewhere ... and you still have your electronic copy.

Personally, with a handful of exceptions, I have no interest in keeping paper-based books.
