The problem with Sony is that they're so large and so scattered in focus that their best hardware gets aborted -- often during development -- whenever it's expected to fail to appeal to an immense demographic. Look at the Qrio robot and Qualia, their short-lived audiophile line, which included a minidisc player machined from a single block of metal long before Apple had the idea for their laptops.
