I think don't think that $50-$100 or so is very expensive for a device you use often and enjoy using.
But disposable pens are ridiculously cheap - you can buy 60 bic pens for $5 on Amazon...and nicer retractable pens are something like $10 for 12.
Of course my problem is not that I wear pens out; it's that I lose them.

Maybe I would be less likely to do that if I had a less disposable pen.
