As for Calibre. Unfortunately, I am not sure at what version it stopped working. Unfortunately I downloaded and updated calibre several times without checking full functionality, as it has never caused me problems in the past. However, I have tried removing and reinstalling all the way back to 7.37 , and all versions in between up to 7.57.

I have an 7.36 version which runs fine on an old XP Pro SP2 system.

I suppose I could try running it in an XP virtual machine...but I would really rather not. Besides, it was working fine.

Yes I worked my way back through various degrees of "removing" Calibre. Until it was everything app dir, metadata.db, config files, file associations and other remnants in registry.

I should mention I have also gone through the system restore (Windows) to no avail. Although it reeked havok on all other programs...

At this point I am at a loss...hence the post.

Perhaps even farther back in Calibre version...but then I loose some key improvements and capabilities, I use for imports/conversions et al.
