Well, that is true of any good science fiction novel. It's not about the science, it's about humanity - an interesting look at ourselves. That's what all fiction is about. A novel or story is classified as science fiction if it contains plausible future-oriented projections of technology, society, etc. Certainly 1984 did when it was written. (as did 2001) but both those dates have now passed (thus the comment about being proven wrong).
