I thought you lived in the UK. Is UK tap water unfit for consumption in the absence of boiling first? There are places in the U.S., especially in households that rely on private wells, where boiling first would be a good idea, but most of us get water through a municipal water supply that is pretreated before it comes to the home. I have never gotten ill from drinking unboiled tap water in the U.S. I think if I were so concerned about the water quality, I would buy pretreated bottled water or install a purification system in my home, but there has never been a need to do so.
