Sylvie, a skin is nothing like a screen protector, it's much thicker. A skin is made from vinyl, you can't see through it, the back of it is a dark gray color. If you put it on carefully, there is no way pet hair will show, and just take your time, there will be no bubbles. I have never, ever had one lift or peel off, not even on the corners. It's hard to explain, but once you apply it, it's stuck really well, although it can be lifted to make adjustments if you need to at the time of installation. I cannot imagine one of these things wearing out, or fading or anything. I've heard of people having them installed for many months, and it still looks as good as the day of installation.
I can't imagine using my Kindle without a skin, and a cover. The skin does keep fingerprints and such off of it, but more than anything, the skin is decorative and personalizes my Kindle, makes it uniquely mine. Especially since I designed my own skin, I didn't buy one they had on their site. But I still can't say I'm the only one who has a skin like this because I've shared my artwork with several other Kindle friends and they had a skin made for their Kindle from my design.
I highly recommend putting a skin on your Kindle, I don't think you'll be sorry!
