That certainly applies to the follow-up books--and even more-so now that Rothfuss has become a "bestseller." But strictly speaking of a debut novel/novelist like Name of the Wind/Rothfuss was, the publisher assigned editor surely has a bit more of a club to wield over a scared newbie who's trying to break through. The point may be moot now, but I still say that a more aggressive editor could have helped this debut author (at the time) tighten things up a bit.

Ironically enough, I've been led to believe in this particular instance that it was Rothfuss's editor who encouraged him to lengthen and expand on certain sections. If true, he certainly seemed willing enough to accept her suggestions.

Ah well, point taken in any case.
