I still think the shelves is a great idea, but they really really really need to understand that (a) that data MUST be kept in the cloud (to sync across multiple devices) and (b) the gui has to be more usable.

though not sideloaded books but your books bought through Barnes and Noble are kept in the cloud, so to speak and they do sync across multiple devices. Nook synces with nook color which can sync with your Android or iPhone app and vice versa. I use it all the time.
