It is quite a hit relatively speaking but in real world terms not enough to make me not go with it for the 1.0 release in the plugins forum. To scan a 40000 book library went from 0.7 secs to just on 1 sec.
If you are able to figure out some repro steps for the other issue that would be great. No one else has reported anything like it and I can't visualise the possible code issue from your description so anything more concrete would be great.
