Hmm...

You don't specify how many of each format you have. On that case, I would recommend a Kindle 3. It is an international device (means, is sold and supported even outside of USA), great battery life and native PDF support. But if you rely heavily on PDF or that format is important for you, a Sony is a better alternative; in my opinion, Sony ereaders are better for PDFs.

But overall, I like and prefer the Kindle. It's not just a good device supported by a big online bookstore but has a very competitive price than Sony can't beat.

I would take Nook 1st gen. out of the question. No native PDF support, poor battery life and even when you can use it there, was marketed for USA customers so buying books can be a problem if you don't have a valid USA address or credit card.
