It's subjective. In some cases, yes, it can absolutely be better.

I don't ever pull the SD card out of my Android tablet. I use USB and dropbox and email to transfer files to it.
BUT...at the same price I'd get the SD card just for flexibility. But it wouldn't be deal-breaker not to have it.
