I've only had my e-reader since February, so I'm still wincing at the purchase price. So, my budget does dictate my book selections to a certain extent.
In general, my book selection flow chart looks something like this:
1. Do I want to read it? Yes (continue to question 2); No (don't buy it).
2. Will it cost more or less than a fancy coffee drink? Less than or equal to fancy coffee drink (skip the coffee and buy the book); More than fancy coffee drink (continue to question 3)
3. Do I need the book for work or school? Yes (buy it); No (continue to question 4).
4. Are there any cheaper books that I want to read as well? Yes (read those first); No (just buy the book already!)
There are so many public domain books out there that I've been wanting to read that it really is rare for me to justify spending money on more expensive books. In general, I usually limit big money purchases to nonfiction (craft books and textbooks).
