Yes - you just need to use Calibre's custom column feature to create a new column in Calibre that displays either the Series name or the author. Once you create the column, use the plugin's Customization screen to select it (mark it 'Create') and remove the 'Create' from your author and series columns.

I've added this as an example in the Calibre Custom Columns section on the first post.
