Thanks Kovid. I disabled my antivirus and can confirm this has fixed the problem. (Running Norton 360 v5 and had recently updated from version 3.x) No reinstall required.

I'll figure out how to exclude the directory / files by working with Symantec support.

Appreciate the tip; never would have thought of that!
